Mission Committee

The Mission Committee is a small group of congregation members and friends who are dedicated to serving the community in charity and love. Our congregation has chosen three major areas to serve:

The Mission Committee tries very hard to satisfy all local requests for help in addition to these. This committee also works in partnership with the children's and youth ministries to bring awareness of the importance of community service and mission to our young people. This group meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month between services in the Teaching Room by the gym. New members are always welcome!
Adult Education (more info)

Adult Education classes are held in six (6) to eight week terms - fall, winter and spring. Topics are varied, always with a Christian and Spiritual theme, but often based on a commonly expressed need. Classes are offered both evenings and daytime, to accommodate personal schedules. In addition, short seminars are held on such topics such as marriage classes, life planning classes and parenting classes. Other classes are added as the need arises.

Children's Ministry Pre-School through 5th Grade

The church school program serves the children of our church community with classes or special events offered during the 10:00 a.m. Sunday worship service. The first Sunday of each month is set aside for "Children's Church" which is a time for music, prayer, a Bible lesson with theme related crafts, and games. On the other Sundays of the month, the children learn in a more traditional church school classroom setting. Children's Ministry plans several events throughout the year including an Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween pizza party with pumpkin carving, as well as the annual Gingerbread House decorating party, which takes place after the Children's Christmas Pageant. Information for these events is handed out to the children in church school, listed in the bulletin as well as the Grapevine. Around the 3rd grade, children are offered the opportunity for Communion Classes. In these classes children learn about Holy Communion and examine their own relationship and responsibility to Christ. After completion, they receive a Bible and celebrate the sacrament of Communion in church. Vacation Bible School is also offered and is a 5-day program for children ages 3 to 5th grade. Middle School aged children may also be involved as teachers' aides, craft room helpers or performers. The program meets from 9:00am - 12:00pm Monday through Friday with a wonderful closing program on Friday night. Themes change from year to year but you can always find music, skits, crafts, games and activities with a Biblical message.

Youth Ministry (Grades 6-12)
(Middle School - More Info)

Senior High Youth Group - The senior high youth program is a "youth run, youth led" format. This uses a youth council that meets to discuss the direction and programs that they would like to see the youth group achieve. The youth council members change on an annual basis. The youth group meets as directed by the programs that are taking place during the current month. This group meets at least once a month, more if the need arises. Some of the activities that we participate in are, sleepovers at the church, hiking, and fund-raising activities such as leaf raking for a donation. We participate in a Presbytery wide retreat every year at Johnsonburg Camp. During the summer the youth have the opportunity to attend Silver Bay Camp in Lake George, NY. Every three years the Presbytery sends representatives from each church to a worldwide youth rally called the Triennium. In the past this has been held on the campus of Purdue University. Every year we raise money for the poor of the world by participating in a 30-hour famine. We do this in partnership with other area Presbyterian Churches.

Junior High Youth Group - The Junior High Youth Group will meet each month on Sunday evenings for 1-1/2 hours. The mission of the Junior High Youth Group will be to impart a Christian message in a fun environment for the kids. While still in the planning stages, activities may include field trips, hiking, games, volunteer projects and vocational exploration. Each time this group meets, one-third of the evening will be dedicated to providing Christian Education and prayer. The balance will include planned activities with food and fun.

The Skylands Learning Center

Skylands Learning Center is a fully staffed, full-time or part-time nursery school and day care center located in the church. SLC offers both before and after-school care programs, as well as a pre-school curriculum with qualified teachers. Previously called Community Educare, the center opened in 1992. SLC provides a clean, stimulating, "home-like" environment for children ages 6 weeks to 13 years old. At SLC the children and staff are constantly engaged in learning activities- the preschool class utilizes The Creative Curriculum for Preschool as well as tablet technology! Our after school program includes homework help, arts and crafts, board games and an optional enrichment program.

Listed below are just some of the areas covered by Fellowship: Men's Golf and/or Eating Club, Women's Communion Breakfast, Easter Sunrise Service Breakfast,Annual Church Auction, and Coffee Hour, to name a few.

The Finance Committee is responsible for all of the financial issues within the church, including but not limited to preparing budgets, reviewing pledge status, reviewing expenses, providing financial statements to the session and congregation, etc.

Internal Communications

This committee's initial project began with the creation of this church information packet to be distributed to all new members, those considering membership as well as current members of the church. This packet contains important information about the church, contact people, programs offered at the church, frequently asked questions, etc. This committee has also put together a tri-fold pamphlet outlining basic information about the church. The pamphlets can be found in the pews and Uncle Otto's Cozy Corner - be sure to look for it! Another goal of this committee is to have all of this information available on the church website. In addition, there is a Suggestion Box located near the entrance of the sanctuary for any questions or comments. Upon completion of these projects this committee will be focusing on other communication areas within the church.

Media Communications

Media Communications is responsible for all of the audiovisual aspects of the church, including the video taping of the services, maintaining the church website and making available the services for viewing and listening online. Each service is telecast live on the Church website and aired on Cablevision's local channel (channel 77) a couple of times during the week. DVD's of the sermons are also available.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee is comprised of Elders and Church members. They meet once a year to select nominations for Elders as needed. This committee is responsible for recommending the nominees to be voted on during the annual membership meeting.

Operations is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of our church building and attendant facilities.

Parish Nursing

This ministry is to help those who need assistance in planning for health care or who need an advocate for accessing health care. The Casserole Committee and the Angel Corp. are also part of the Parish Nursing Committee.

The Personnel Committee conducts a performance review with members of the church staff. The procedures follow the guidelines provided by the Presbytery.

Prayer Chain

A prayer chain has been formed for our church family and friends. If someone is in need of a prayer, a request is made and the members of the prayer chain will remember that request as they pray. The requests can be specific or of a general nature. All prayer requests are kept confidential within the prayer chain. Please contact Jill McDonald.

Stewardship Committee

The Stewardship Committee has been recently formed and charged with addressing the financial status of congregational pledges. Since the church is hoping to add new programs to further meet the needs of the congregation, the committee will be evaluating ways to increase income through pledges and other contributions. For information about making a pledge or contribution to the church, please contact the church office.

Worship Ministry

The Worship Ministry acts as the "Host" of the church. The Worship Ministry is responsible for making members and guests feel welcome as they gather for the proclamation of the Word and the celebration of the Sacraments. The Ministry helps foster the encounter with the Risen Lord and the response in prayer and service.
